No Soliciting!

Hey Robbins Brook!

This seems to be a hot topic this week and we thought it would be best to address Robbins Brook's No Soliciting policy around the biggest time of the year for solicitors.

Many companies are hiring college students this time of year to go door-to-door selling services. Most of these people are not aware that our neighborhoods has a No Soliciting policy. Unfortunately, many of our homeowners are also unaware of this policy.

So how do we reduce and maybe stop the door-to-door solicitor? Here are a few helpful tips.

  • Don't answer the door. This is hard for some because we are curious by nature. If you open the door it gives the solicitor hope of a sale or signature. This also provides them the motivation to try the next house even if you say no.
  • If you are caught outside with this solicitor, kindly ask them to leave and then ignore them. It's difficult to carry on a 2-way conversation by yourself.
  • Remind anyone Soliciting that Robins Brook has a No Soliciting policy and that they are breaking the law.
  • If you are dealing with a solicitor that just will not take NO for an answer, call the company they are soliciting for and inform them as to the behavior of their employee.
  • If the solicitor is being rude or acting strange... Call the police.
Most solicitors are just trying to earn a paycheck or promote a political cause. The majority of solicitors are not looking to harm you therefore a respectful "no thank you" with a reminder as to Robbins Brook's "No Soliciting" policy will likely work.

We hope this information provided will help all of our Robbins Brook neighbors. Please leave a comment below with your suggestions that would help stop soliciting in Robbins Brook.

  1. What it be possible to post more than one sign throughout the neighborhood as a reminder? Maybe the new board could help combat this problem as I get many door knockers lately?!

  2. I think that would be a great suggestion for the Board to discuss while establishing the new budget.

  3. The process in my head for this would be:
-Propose at quarterly meeting (possible vote at the same time?)
-The board then goes and researches, determines financials, timing, road blocks, etc...and brings this information to the next quarterly if the board deems it is possible (for official vote).

This may take a bit longer than most people would like, but at least it is a known process and there is an expectation set.
